Buffalo Check Thanksgiving Table with Cricut
Happy almost Thanksgiving, y’all! The day to eat all the things is almost here…do you have your stretchy pants ready? I sure do! ;)
I’m super excited to share my latest collaboration with Cricut, Martha Stewart, and Michaels with you because I think you’re gonna love it! If you’re mad for plaid and like to get a little crafty, this Buffalo Check Thanksgiving Table is for you!
Who loves spending their Thanksgiving washing dishes? Not me!!! Paper plates are a must in our house for Thanksgiving, but they have to be pretty. That’s just how I roll. ;)
A quick trip to Michaels will score ya all the pretty paper goods you need to make your table look magnificent. Martha Stewart has an awesome variety of paper good collections available only at Michaels that will leave you swooning! They’re so pretty, and include all of the goodies you need to make your celebrations look amazing. From plates, cups, and napkins to table runners and favors, you’ll find exactly the perfect pieces to make your gathering complete!
The Martha Stewart Copper Collection is perfect for Thanksgiving, and the tones are so warm & cozy! Pair the goodies with Buffalo Check placemats to create a beautiful, on-trend Thanksgiving table. I found my placemats at HomeGoods, but Buffalo Check is so popular right now, I think you can probably find them just about anywhere.
Layering plates is a great way to add dimension & visual interest, and it’s just a flat-out pretty look. 3-D pumpkins cut out of card stock and placed on top of a doily at each place setting lend to the harvest vibe and add some color to the table. The pumpkins are so easy to make, and names can even be added if you’d like to use them for place cards. Get the DIY here.
Patterned paper cut into strips transforms into pretty napkins rings and is such an affordable embellishment! Top with a felt ball to mimic a berry and a leaf cut from card stock for a pretty finishing touch.
Anchoring the cups on a patterned napkin helps tie the place setting together. My wheat wreath fell off the window and broke while I was setting my table, so I decided to put the broken wheat pieces to good use. I hot glued them onto gold straws along with some beads to create some custom stir sticks for our cocktails. I’m kinda diggin’ how they turned out. What do you think?
Now this is where the fun really starts! Are you ready?
I whipped out my Cricut® Explore Air 2™ Special Edition Martha Stewart Bundle to create the sweetest little DIY Thanksgiving table centerpiece that you ever did see!
I used the back side of the canvas polka dot table runner from the Martha Stewart collection at Michaels as a base for the runner, then used my Martha machine to cut all different kinds of flowers and greenery to create a stunning centerpiece. Isn’t it cute?!!

Have you ever made paper flowers before? I’ve only tried a few times, and I’ve gotta admit, it was way too much scissor time for me. I’m just not that patient! Then the Cricut Explore Air 2 came into my life and a whole new world opened up! You guys, if you’re into crafting and don’t have a Cricut machine, the Cricut® Explore Air 2™ Special Edition Martha Stewart Bundle from Michaels should be on your Santa list this year!
It can cut over 100 materials ranging from paper to cork and just about everything in between, and it can write and score, too! Plus, it includes access to thousands of projects in Design Space, and you get twenty-five exclusive Martha Stewart projects with the bundle. You can always get creative and design your very own unique projects, too!
Using the Martha machine to cut paper flowers totally changed my outlook, and now I just might be a paper flower addict! This machine cuts out the flower pieces so fast, literally twice as fast as previous machines, and a gazillion times faster than using scissors!!! I think the hardest part of the whole process is just deciding what colors to use!
I came across this wreath project in Cricut’s Design Space and fell in love with the flowers. I was looking for a way to add some color to the Buffalo Check placemats and thought these flowers might be the perfect way to do just that.
Once you open the project and click “Make It,” Design Space walks you through cutting the different flowers and greenery. Instructions for creating the flowers once they’ve been cut are included, too. So awesome!
Here are a couple of tips I discovered during this process that I think will be helpful for you.
Use a light grip or fabric mat when cutting card stock. A standard grip mat is a bit too tacky and may tear your paper.
Instead of peeling the paper off of the mat after it’s been cut, peel the mat away from the paper. (See pic above). I used the spatula (one of the tools included with the Martha Machine Bundle) to lift a corner of the paper away from the mat, then flipped the mat over and peeled it away from the paper. This prevents your paper from bending and curling.
To style the centerpiece, a vase of vibrant fall leaves makes a great focal point. From there, you can arrange your perfectly cut flowers along the runner on either side of the leaves. I transformed little favor jars from the Martha Copper Collection into vases for some of the flowers to add some height variation to the layout. Mixing in pinecones and votive candles complete the look and add to the ambiance.
We have a chalkboard in our dining room, and I always incorporate it into whatever is going on in our lives. For our Thanksgiving, I cut an “Eat, Drink, and Be Thankful” image out of white vinyl and added it to our board. (To use this image, search #M8497ED7 in Design Space).
If you’re like me, confetti is always a good idea, so passing up on the fun confetti wands from the Martha Copper Collection just won’t happen. I mean…confetti. :)
Of course, I couldn’t resist jazzing up for the occasion, so I did, and I displayed them in the bin below our chalkboard.
I cut tiny strips of brown card stock, rolled them up, then hot glued them onto orange felt balls to create mini pumpkins. I had extra doilies left over from the place settings, so I used them to create a fringe for the wands. Simply cut the doilies in half, then use scissors to make thin cuts to within about 1/2” of the straight edge. With the foil side in, roll the doily around the wand and secure with hot glue, then bend the strips down to create the fringe.
For the Martha tags, you can write on them or add a festive fall element like I did. I just found a leaf shape in Design Space and cut some out of adhesive foil. String some baker’s twine through the hole, then hot glue the string to the top of the wand. Glue the pumpkin on top.
