80s-Inspired DIY Party Cracker Place Cards

Thanks to Oriental Trading Company for providing me with fabulous products for this post. All ideas and opinions found in this post are my own.

If you’ve stepped into a party store lately, you’ve likely seen some version of party crackers. They’re all the rage right now, and they’re so darn festive!

For our recent “Bad to the Bone” 80s-Inspired Halloween Party, I created a super easy DIY version of these cuties, and used them to mark the place settings. They turned out so cool! What I really love is that they serve double duty…they act as place cards and they can be used as party favors!

Take a peek below for the super easy how-to instructions for making these 80s-Inspired DIY Party Crackers.

Begin by unfolding the napkin, then folding it in half diagonally. Position the cardboard tube on the straight end of the napkin, and secure with double-sided tape. Roll to the end, then secure that end with double-sided tape. Use a twist tie to secure one end of the party cracker closed. Add candy or filler to the tube, then secure the other end of the party cracker closed with a twist tie. Trim the ends of the twist ties off with scissors.

Trim the ends of the crackers down a bit so they are proportionate to the size of the cracker, then cut slits in the ends to create a fringe. Wrap baker’s twine or ribbon around the pipe cleaners for a more finished look. Hot glue the alphabet beads on the crackers to spell out the names for each place setting, then add ric-rac, washi tape, and abstract shapes cut out of card stock to give the crackers an 80s feel.

Display at each place setting for a unique twist on name cards. Aren’t they fun? They look great displayed on layered plates, too.
